Bagedil

These fried potato patties with minced meat is DA BOMB! I can eat these with almost everything; nasi lemak, mee rebus, mee soto, nasi ambeng (but of course!) and even with lontong. Different stores make them in their own unique way and even those ready made ones are equally as nice.

Since I was going to cook sayur lodeh to be eaten with the Adabi rice cakes, I might as well make the bagedil from scratch. You can make these with or without the minced meat.

Ingredients

  • 500 gm Russet potatoes, peeled, washed and cut into quarters (around 4 pieces)
  • 1/2 cup cooked minced beef (seasoned with a little cumin powder or just salt and pepper)
  • 1/4 cup spring onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Chinese parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fried shallots
  • 1 egg, beaten and used for coating purposes before frying
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • enough oil, for frying

Directions

Boil the potatoes with 1 teaspoon of salt. Once removed from the pot, mash them in a dry bowl. Just stir-fry the minced beef in a little bit of oil.  Once cooked, add into the same bowl as the mashed potatoes.

Add in all the chopped ingredients including the fried shallots and mix thoroughly. Season well with the white pepper and salt and shape into medium sized balls with the palms of your hands before flattening.

Coat bagedil in the beaten eggs and fry till light browned. This batch makes around 18 to 20 heavenly and yummy fried potato patties 🙂
