Cinnamon Stars

6 Sep

These Cinnamon Stars are so pretty but honestly speaking, I was worried when mixing the dough. It was dry and didn’t look remotely close to any cookie dough I’ve done previously. With the help of my mother, she tweaked the recipe and rescued the dough from being wasted.

This is a typical Christmas cookie but I have since Melayu-fied it… heh 😉

I hope I’ve done this cookie justice with the slight modification. And here goes the recipe for the very pretty Cinnamon Stars.

  • 3 egg whites
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 400 gm icing sugar
  • 300 gm ground almonds
  • 100 gm plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder

Icing Topping

  • 180 gm icing sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • Dusting sugar (assorted colours)

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth dough. Roll it between two plastic sheets to a 6-mm thickness. Cut it with star cutter and place into pan lined with baking paper. Pipe the royal icing on top of the star and allow it to spread evenly. Sprinkle dusting sugar (I used green, red and orange) on top of the icing. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Bake at 170 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes.

Icing Topping

Mix icing sugar and egg white till smooth and spreading consistency. If you need a softer icing, add extra egg white. If you need a stiffer icing, add extra icing sugar.
